Garry died in March, 1990 of a heart attack.  He was 46 and living in Milan.  Like our dad, Garry was a crane operator, and was excited to be working on the new control tower at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Garry was not interested in going to college; but rather, enjoyed working around machinery.  By the time he joined the Navy Seabees in 1968 ( better than getting drafted into the army, right? ), he had been a journeyman operator for a few years.  Ironically, he still ended up in Vietnam working on construction projects and retrieving downed helicopters in the countryside around DaNang.

Garry left behind two teenage sons, Mike and Steve, and wife Mary Ellen.  The boys enjoy seeing their Uncle Larry ( and tell me it's like visiting with their dad as he grew older ).

As you can imagine, being twins, our birthday is always a little sad and I always wish he were still here.

He probably would have been our " fearless leader" on our rides back in those days.

Bob,

Funny you should mention Garry's cigarettes.  When I was in 10th grade and playing football, someone ( I think it was Mike Dickerson) asked Garry if he was going out for football too.  He replied: "If they can design a facemask to protect my cigarette, I might".  I think we all miss his humor and wit.
